Like so many Mercedes S-Classes, this one was delivered as a new car in Japan. The mild climate there has not affected the bodywork in the least. In Japan, German luxury cars are considered a special congestion symbol. They are usually only used for special occasions.

The last years a nice lady in Belgium was allowed to enjoy the car, now it is back in its country of birth. In Belgium, the SEL has been registered in 2016 - with 62,187 km on the meter.

In the extensive on-board folder, among other things, some maintenance receipts have been preserved. In it, work has been stamped at mileages: 11,755 km, 26,084 km, 42,617 km, 51,262 km, 56,424 km, and 60,681 km. In Belgium, Mercedes in Vereengooghe calculated a service on 2/28/2017 at 66,568 km. In addition, there is a service booklet newly started by a Hamburg Mercedes Classic Partner with the entry of the VERY extensive maintenance carried out in Hamburg in April 2022 at 72,545 km.

Within the scope of this maintenance not only the engine oil, the transmission oil, the coolant and the brake fluid were changed. It was also changed to the correct alloy wheels including new tires, suspension joints replaced, brake hoses replaced, all ignition wires and spark plug connectors replaced, two brake discs replaced, engine mounts replaced, two brake calipers replaced, headlights replaced with ones for right hand drive, etc, etc.

The underbody was cleaned with dry ice. This Mercedes 560SEL has clearly been able to live a very relaxed life and has always been very well maintained. Even the small footrests are preserved. In the end, passing the main inspection and getting the H license plate was a mere formality. The car looks much fresher than its actual age would suggest. The 560 SEL is really quite exceptionally well maintained!
